Star Models, the famous Brazilian model agency draws attention to the serious problem of eating disorders in a clever campaign that sends a powerful message: You are not a sketch.
Although discussions about healthy standards imposed by the fashion industry are very far from being a recent concern. With a sketch of a traditional fashion model on one side and a picture of a model digitally altered so that looks like the drawing on the other, the new campaign for Brazilian agency finally reveals the actual illusion of perfection encourages the fashion industry on ordinary women.
You are not a sketch, say NO to anorexia campaign reads. The illustrator responsible for the implementation of these publications is Edson Rosa and Samuel Marinho, who were able to make very clear the intent of them.
While the protest is straightforward, many think that the same drawings and photographs used to warn of what is real and what is an illusion, are used as a source of inspiration for those already affected by the disease.
There is no denying that at an unconscious level these sketches have a powerful influence and shape the image of what is beautiful and acceptable not only on the catwalks, but also in real life. Nor can we ignore reality, even though there is a massive reaction against the standard size 0, it is true that the natural size models and even plus size mannequins are still a source of controversy despite the commonly accepted view that more than one type of body should be represented on the catwalks and in the fashion stores.
The campaign “You are not a sketch” is clearly aimed at young women who are still forming their own definition of beauty, however, serves as a reminder to everyone to not fall prey to unhealthy eating behaviors in an effort to approach to utopian standards of perfection and beauty imposed.
Certainly these reminders are useful, but the real change is when ideas translate into practice. Hopefully once and for all, the fashion industry, that monster of beauty, stop bashing the minds of the youth of the world with standards that deviate terribly from reality.
